What is mediation? Mediation is a process whereby an independent mediator, using mediation skills, works with disputing parties to identify the most important areas of disagreement thereby enabling all parties to work towards a mutually satisfactory agreement. All parties to the mediation will have agreed to mediate before mediation commences and have a desire to find a satisfactory conclusion to the disputed issue. A successful mediation will avoid the time, expense and publicity which can result if an issue is litigated. Mediation is confidential and is undertaken in an impartial manner by an independent mediator who is acceptable to all parties.
